How to install bolt on posts

Step 1

Mark out on the wall where the posts need to be installed, using a spirit level draw in a plumb line with a pencil or chalk.

Step 2

Hold the post in position lining up with your mark, ensure the post hinge pins are facing the direction the gate is opening into. The 16mm holes should be visible and the 8mm holes should be against the wall.

Step 3 

Drill one hole with the post in position using a 6mm sds drill bit, minimum 350mm in length. 

Step 4

Using a combinstion drill or even better an impact driver, use a 10mm socket with an extension bit to drive in a 6mm Thunderbolt.

Step 5

Check level for plumb asgain, this time using the post rather than chalk line, repeat the fixing process from steps 3 and 4. Finish by inserting the 16mm bungs to cover up the holes.

Tools that may be required

– 4ft spirit level

– Pencil or chalk

– SDS Drill

– Combi drill or impact driver (preferred)

– 10mm socket

– Extension bit 100mm

– 6mm SDS drill bit min 350mm long
